Sudan has announced the finalisation of a Russia-Sudan port agreement, the negotiations of which have been ongoing since 2019 but stalled due to the civil war. It appears that the timing was ideal, as there is now a high chance that the current government will stay in power. The agreement will see the establishment of a Russian naval base on the strategic Red Sea coastline of Eastern Sudan, with hopes that the project will support both Sudan’s post-war transition and Russia’s trade route plans.
