SOCIAL POST: After Haifa, Israel admits Ashdod was also hit, Fuel Crisis Looms in Israel
Fuel crisis brews in Israel as Ashdod and Haifa refineries are offline (partially/fully).
Ashdod halted 'unexpectedly' after Iran’s missile strike on Haifa. Haifa refinery, run by Bazan, was hit hard in Iran’s 15-16 June attack, killing 3 staff & knocking out power. It's fully offline, with no operations resumed as of now, meaning there is no domestic refining in Israel.
Now, Ashdod’s shutdown, meant for maintenance, extended due to “malfunctions”. The timing suggests possible strike damage from the recent war. Ports and pipelines are still strained due to Iran’s strikes, and fuel imports are soaring. LPG supply is at risk. Haifa (44%) and Ashdod (19%) down. Shortages may hit 2.1 million people.
Netanyahu's government is notably silent on Ashdod’s fate. Haifa’s damage was noted, but opacity fuels speculation, especially with Iran’s missile prowess. It appears Israel was attempting to downplay the extent of the damage caused by the war. Loss of refining capacity from Iran’s strike on Haifa refinery threatens Israel’s energy security. Stretched pipelines and shaky imports signal economic risks.
