SOCIAL POST: Syria Achieves Major Victory Against Israel
Syria has entrenched its energy access inside the regional balance of power.
Syria will begin importing Azerbaijani gas via Turkish transit infrastructure from 2 August. No, this is not normalisation, but rather a deliberate securitisation of supply chains. Why?
Gas will flow through the Kilis–Aleppo corridor, fully reconstructed in May. No new Syrian infrastructure was required. Initial volumes will reach 3.4 million cubic metres per day, generating up to 1,200 megawatts of electricity for Syria’s grid. The pipeline crosses NATO territory and already serves Israeli and Russian-linked flows. So, any Israeli strike would trigger unacceptable strategic costs.
The mechanism recalls Syria’s earlier handover of its Tartus port to the UAE. In both cases, assets will have de facto immunity from an Israeli attack. Moreover, Syria gains stable, low-cost energy from this deal. Turkey acquires regional leverage and Azerbaijan deepens its export corridor. Israel is locked out of the equation. Contrary to what some may believe, this development is not a form of normalisation. It is securitisation of supply chains. Syria has now entrenched its energy access inside the regional balance of power.
