East-Turkistan condemns Palestine-China strategic partnership
I spent last night thinking about this partly to investigate it and partly because it significantly changed my thinking on the topic.
In reaction to the Palestine-China announced Strategic Partnership, the self-proclaimed East Turkistan Government-in-Exile representing Uyghurs condemned the partnership. The rhetoric used is anti-colonial discourse arguing China is an imperial power and by signing a partnership with China, Palestine has suppprted China’s imperialist agenda. Furthermore, the statement condemned Arab and Muslim worlds support for China in its colonisation and accused them of hypocrisy.
The supppsed government is based in Washington DC. Its offices are 9 minutes walk away from the White House. A quick look at their twitter following suggests it is a pro-Western entity as it follows many western Foriegn Ministries accounts. A quick check of the website, suggests the group is pro-Israel as well. Noticeably, the statement has no mention of Israeli occupation, but focuses on criticising Palestine, Arabs, Muslims and China.
This is an interesting evolution of the topic as China have recently increased its efforts to propose a new peace pocess between Israel and Palestine. Israel has refused the Chinese efforts, but Palestine fully endorsed it.
Any official negotiation proposals made by China will be rejected by the West and Israel on the premise of China not being an honest broker. Previously, Palestine, Arabs, and Muslims have criticised the US mediation for the same reason.
I have analysed the strategic partnership text and it is particularly interesting and quite surprising. If anyone is interested, I can privately share some thoughts on that.
It seems the conflict is en route to escalation as ongoing political stalemate is unsustainable.
